Winklmoosalm
The Winklmoosalm has become world-famous as the home of former Olympic champion "Gold-Rosi" Mittermaier.
Between the Dürrnbachhorn and the Kammerköhrplatte lies an extensive high plateau at an altitude of 1200 metres in the middle of the border triangle of Bavaria, Salzburg and Tyrol. The alpine pasture area there is not only the summer home of numerous cows and calves, but also the starting point of an extensive network of hiking, cycling and mountain bike trails.
Hikers and mountain bikers will find tours and trails for every level of difficulty. Less strenuous routes tempt you with a variety of places to stop for refreshments: Rest in your thoughts or even in one of the mountain inns. How about a detour to the pilgrimage church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary? In addition to the tranquillity, there are incomparable views of the Loferer Steinberge mountains in neighbouring Salzburg's Pinzgau region.
