The Winklmoos-Alm is located around 10 km from the centre of Reit im Winkl, at an altitude of around 1200 m. Protected from bright light sources by the Chiemgau mountains, the night sky is still particularly dark here. Without light pollution, 5000 stars can often be recognised with the naked eye. This is why the Winklmoos-Alm is one of only four officially certified star parks in Germany and the only one in the Alps to date. There are special benches on the Winklmoos-Alm for observing the starry sky. In summer, guided stargazing tours take place regularly, during which various topics such as constellations, distances between galaxies, the Milky Way and light pollution are clearly explained.
