The Berchtesgaden salt mine (founded in 1517) is located in the heart of the Berchtesgaden Alps. Separated from the mining area by a rock face, the mine railway takes you 650 metres into the mountain before you find yourself in the huge salt cathedral with its spectacular miner's slide.
