Hohenaschau Castle
In the last third of the 12th century, Konrad and Arnold von Hirnsberg built Hohenaschau Castle as a base at the entrance to the Upper Priental. Important noble families expanded the property and developed the castle into the centre of the administrative seat of their lordship; with their influence, they shaped the land and people in western Chiemgau. During the reconstruction and extension of the castle in the Renaissance (1540 - 1560) and High Baroque (1672 - 1686) styles, the Baroque castle chapel and the former benefice house, today's Priental Museum, were built. After further alterations, mainly from 1905 - 1908 by Theodor von Cramer-Klett, the property was transferred to the Federal Republic of Germany (Federal Real Estate Agency). This leased it mainly to the social welfare organisation of the Federal Finance Administration as a holiday home.
