Famous expressionists such as Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter created some of their most impressive works here. Franz Marc lived in the Kochel district of Ried for some time. After he died at the Battle of Verdun in 1916, he was buried in the Kochel cemetery. A museum has been dedicated to his work in Kochel a. See. Visitors will find a permanent exhibition there as well as changing special exhibitions.
In the modern 700 square metre exhibition building, Franz Mars' work is juxtaposed with the work of many of his contemporaries, such as the "Brücke" artists. of many other 20th century artists in new contexts. In dialogue with works of German post-war abstraction, Franz Marc's impact on the art of the second half of the 20th century can also be appreciated.
