Neuschwanstein Castle
King Ludwig II. loved this place just as much as his father Maximilian II. The mountain-loving royal family travelled a lot in this area. There were two castle ruins there at the time: Vorderhohenschwangau and Hinterhohenschwangau. It was here that Ludwig II planned his "New Hohenschwangau Castle", now known as Neuschwanstein Castle. Modelled on Wartburg Castle, he wanted to create an ideal of a medieval castle, equipped with the most modern technical achievements. Today, the castle is one of the most famous sights in the world. Neuschwanstein Castle can only be visited as part of a guided tour. Tickets are available from the Ticket Centre online.
