Oberaudorf
Right at the heart of the Inn valley in Bavaria, surrounded by rolling hills and mountain peaks, lies the holiday destination of Oberaudorf. This unspoilt and idyllic location has plenty to offer anyone who loves culture, the great outdoors and food and drink.
Get active and away from it all on the varied walking and cycling trails in and around Oberaudorf. The routes lead through mountain meadows, past craggy peaks and along rippling water amid a beautiful natural landscape. In summer, the many lakes provide plenty of opportunity to cool down, but they are also well worth a visit in spring or autumn. Mount Hocheck is a particular hit with children thanks to the summer toboggan run, the ‘flying fox’ zip wire, the free-fall slide and the myths and legends trail that promise hours of fun and adventure.
The region also has lots to offer in the way of entertainment. The charming villages of Oberaudorf and Niederaudorf, which was named Germany’s most beautiful village in 2010, are full of rustic farmhouses, pretty mansion houses and wonderful chapels. The ruins of Auerburg, a former border fortress, and medieval Grafenloch Castle are within walking distance of the centre of Oberaudorf, as is the beautifully situated Reisach Carmelite Abbey. Visitors can gain an insight into Bavarian customs and lifestyle during the numerous traditional events that take place throughout the year. During the summer months, the village is full of the sounds of the weekly band concerts.
When it is time for a bite to eat, the excellent restaurants, inviting eateries and quaint mountain inns offer plenty of options. The delicious local cuisine and regional products will delight both gourmets and those who prefer their food rustic and down-to-earth.
